Wolf Walker Danglers - Ocean Jasper & 24k Gold
Wolf Walker Danglers - inspired by the beautiful movie Wolf Walkers, which is a favourite of mine and my two daughters. The story is based on 17th century Irish folklore which forms the foundation for what we now think of as werewolves. In olden times these shape shifters were revered sorcerers and sorceresses who lived in close communion with the land. Their spirits could transform from their human form during waking hours, to their wolf form during dream state. With the onset of Christianity and the outlawing of pagan life-ways, wolf walkers were demonized and feared.
For these earrings, I cut the ocean jaspers, which are sister stones (not twins) myself, and reclaimed all the sterling silver by hand as well, melting it down and forging it into what you see here. I finished these earrings with 24 karat gold overlay using an ancient Korean technique called keum boo, to add to the ancient aesthetic. 24 karat, pure gold is truly lovely stuff - the rich deep hue is a balm to the soul. Each earring measures approx 2.25 inches from the top of the ear wire to the bottom of the stone setting, anf weighs about 8 grams. These are a medium weight earring. Not as heavy as you might think but probably not a good fit if you have very weight-sensitive ears.
All handcrafted using traditional metalsmithing techniques, with my own two hands and a lot of heart and soul. Each North Star order comes lovingly packaged and ready for gift-giving.
